Kalon Prep Academy

“Our focus is on their future.”

Heather netland, Kalon TEACHER

Growing up in today’s world is not easy. The mission of Kalon Prep Academy is to meet students where they are and guide them where they want to go. We have a strengths-based, college and career focused, and whole-student approach. The personal and emotional needs of our students must be met first so they can find the academic success they are looking for.

What we do:

  • Strive to ensure each student learns about and practices a healthy lifestyle
  • Provide a safe environment, both physically and emotionally
  • Ensure student engagement with both curriculum and community
  • Commit to supporting our students through small student:staff ratio, providing on-site therapy, and facilitating access to health care.
  • Challenge our students by offering college credits, career inventories, industry tours, and college tours.

“We are hope dispensers.”

HEATHER N.

Heather Netland, a teacher at Kalon Prep, says that their school is focused on much more than just grades. “We offer new perspectives and hope. We speak words of truth and love.” Making a difference in these young people’s lives means building relationships, building trust, and building a safe environment where students can share their struggles.

“I felt like I was never going to amount to anything. I looked at my transcript and thought that I wasn’t going to be able to make it. Then I joined Kalon and I have confidence now that I can. It’s not going to be easy, but I have faith, especially since I have help from very good people here. They make me want to come to school and succeed.”

“The funding from Kalon helped a lot… some days after class I’d think, “I’m gonna go home and probably not eat again.” And there would be days where I was surprised by a card to Elden’s or a fast food restaurant”

If you’re considering partnering with us financially or through volunteering, you should know that the students are incredibly grateful. They often ask, “Why do these people care so much about me, when they don’t even know me?”
