Addiction is a disease that affects millions of people worldwide. It destroys lives, families, and communities. However, there is hope. The power of the Gospel gives victory over addiction, and the recovery house “La Cosecha” in Mexico is using powerful testimonies to give hope and freedom to people struggling with addiction in Oaxaca City.
The “Desintoxicate” Program
A few years ago, La Cosecha organized a three day event called “Desintoxicate” (“Get clean”) at an important park in Oaxaca City. The event was directed toward the general public and focused on the prevention and treatment of addictions. Various information booths were set up by different rehab centers in the city as well as government-run agencies that grant support to people with addictions.
They organized concerts with Christian music, and different churches presented a performance. The different church members engaged in one-on-one evangelism to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel. Those three days were filled with many blessings.
During the month of February 2023, La Cosecha initiated the program “Desintoxicate” once again in their own church. Oti, the pastor of La Cosecha, gave a talk about addiction at the first event. Members of the church invited people with addiction problems, and it was a great blessing to be able to share the Word of God with them.
Victory Over Addiction: The Testimony of a Restored Marriage
As part of the “Desintoxicate” program, La Cosecha held a conference for married couples. Merari and his wife, Dulce, who have been members of the church for several years, led that portion of the program. Merari came to “La Cosecha” rehab center eight years ago because of his addiction to drugs. After completing his rehabilitation, he and his wife, Dulce, went through a process of restoration with the help of God. This process not only restored their marriage, which had been completely destroyed, but also mended their relationship with their children who were very hurt by the situation.
Currently, Merari and Dulce are dedicated to ministering to couples with severe problems in their marriage. Their testimony of restoration is a great blessing for people who, like them, believed there was no hope.
Overcoming Addiction
“Desintoxicate” goes beyond being just a program; it is the manifestation of God’s restorative power and grace through people dedicated to using the power of the Gospel to fight against addiction. Thanks to God’s abundant love and his son Jesus Christ, people in Oaxaca are finding true healing and restoration.
