Pandemic Allows New Christians to Worship in Safety

Pastor Emmanuel Issa and team in Northern Ghana

Meet Pastor Emmanuel Issa and his team. Pastor Issa is the President of the Baptist Mission Convention in Savelugu, Ghana, and he and his team have experienced an unexpected advantage to their ministry after the emergence of the Coronavirus pandemic.

As missionaries in a Muslim-dominated community, it has proved challenging to encourage new Christians to attend church. Many of them are afraid of the potential for judgement, estrangement, and even persecution that could arise if others in their community knew of their new beliefs. In an attempt to overcome this obstacle, Pastor Issa and his team had just launched home cell meetings prior to the COVID-19 outbreak. These cell meetings allowed new believers to gather discreetly without fear of persecution.

When the government passed bans on social and religious gatherings due to COVID-19 concerns, Pastor Issa and his team were prepared. Their small cell meetings were able to continue regularly, even when other churches were shut down.

This project has only grown since then, with the number of participants increasing each week.

In addition to using the Proclaimer Audio Bibles, Pastor Issa has found great success using the Discovery Bible Studies. According to their website, “A Discovery Bible Study (DBS) is a discipleship study which enables people to read the Bible and discover what it has to say to them. Simple, memorable questions allow participants to understand the character of God, encourage them to obey what they are learning and help them to share it with others.” This resource is perfect for the small cell meetings as they continue to explore their newfound faith.

As always, the need for Audio Bibles grows. Pastor Issa shared a story about the chief of Yong, a small village in the northern region of Ghana, whom he regularly visits to share the word of God. This chief fell ill, so Pastor Issa and his team went to his house to minister to and pray for him. They also gave him one of the Audio Bibles to listen to and encouraged him to meditate on the word of God daily.

The chief did exactly that, and eventually overcame his sickness and also certain challenges he had been experiencing in his life. He loved listening to the bible, and now most of his children have become Christians thanks to the word of God and Pastor Issa’s regular visits to the family. Unfortunately, the Audio Bible got soaked in the rain and ruined.

It costs about $135 US dollars to send an audio bible to our partners in Ghana, Africa. Stories such as the chief of Yong’s is unfortunately all too common. Between accidents, normal wear and tear from heavy daily use, and more people who’ve never heard the word of God, there is always a need for more Audio Bibles. We ask that you would prayerfully consider donating to this ministry to help send the life-giving gospel to the furthest reaches of Ghana. Click here to give securely online, or mail a check to TRC Ministries, PO Box 1196, Alexandria, MN 56308. Make sure to include “Bibles to Ghana” in the memo line.

In addition to sending more bibles, Pastor Issa asks for prayer as he and his team continue to do the Lord’s work through their personal ministry and the home cell meetings. Pray for the chief of Yong, that he would continue to seek God and to fully give his life to Christ and lead his village with the help and power of the Holy Spirit.

The Bibles to Ghana ministry continues to bring many people to Christ every day, and is committed to bringing the Word of God to villages that have never before heard the Gospel. Click here to read more about this ministry in Ghana, Africa.
