When Illiterates Have A Bible Study, Who Reads the Bible?

Most rural folks in the Northern part of Ghana where we mostly work have little or no access to formal education. As a result, they are unable to read or write. The audio Bibles have been the best way for them to study the Word of God.

It has always been a challenge for the Women Fellowship members of the Dama Nkwanta Church when it comes to reading the Bible during their meetings. The problem was, nobody was willing to read the Bible, not because there is no Bible available but because of their inability to read or write. Thankfully, the introduction of the audio Bibles has brought an end to this dilemma.

The audio Bible has become an effective tool in helping the women during their Women Fellowship meetings to learn God’s word faster, as well as memorize the scriptures in their own language. Thus, the audio Bible has become the facilitator of their meetings.

Women’s Fellowship meeting in Dama Nkwanta, Ghana, listening to an audio bible.

During one of their meetings this past June, the scripture for the day was taken from 1 Peter 3:1-14 NIV. The audio Bible was replayed several times in Likpakpaln–their native language–to enable them to understand what they had heard, after which they had a  discussion session.

During the discussion, they discovered for themselves that beauty is not what is only portrayed outwardly through dressing but through character and conduct as well as love for  the things of God. They also discovered that for their marriages to be successful they must  love their spouses, be chaste, humble, submissive, forgiving and respect one another. Also, Christ must be the center of their union. They also found out that without harmony and peace  among couples, all prayers and supplications to God will be in vain.

After the discussion and admonishing themselves, they interceded for themselves, their  spouses, their children, the Church, Ghana as a nation, Christian Outreach Fellowship, TRC and other Christian organizations in Ghana.

We are grateful to God and we will always be thankful to Him for the blessing of the audio Bibles which He is using as a tool to draw people to Himself and nurturing them as well.
