17-Year-Old Chooses Freedom at La Cosecha

David is a 17 year old young man from Hidalgo, Mexico who came to La Cosecha nearly two months ago because of his addiction to crystal meth. Oti, director of La Cosecha, calls David a “miracle from God.” As part of his rehabilitation, David is learning how to be responsible and hard working by learning the trade of masonry. The hope is that he will be able to attend a bible school in Puebla in February of 2022. “Our primary desire is that God will raise up a servant for His work in this young man,” Oti adds.

The men at La Cosecha have been doing maintenance in the interiors of the farm buildings in order to keep them in good condition to protect the animals. They plan to start raising laying hens and are readying a place to keep them. Due to the uncharacteristically cold weather in Oaxaca, they have also started construction on a bathroom with a shower connected to a hot water heater. This bathroom will be connected to the bedroom of some children and their caretaker, Carolina. This will greatly improve their living arrangements, as currently they have to go outside their room to bathe.

Oti and his wife Gabi just celebrated their son Isai’s 13th birthday. They got together along with the workers of La Cosecha and the children of Meno in order to thank God for his life and spend the day having fun. Isai has completed his 2nd year of middle school and participates in worship by playing his clarinet at church.

But Oti reports a topic of concern. “Here in Oaxaca some people have been spreading a false doctrine, saying they believe in God in the way of Judaism. But the truth is that it is a mixture of many beliefs and is a sect that causes people to fall away from Jesus Christ and the gospel. In their teachings they deny Christ as God and Savior. Sadly, dear brothers, one of our church members with his family left us for this reason.”

Please join with us in praying for these items:
  • That David would continue in his rehabilitation and experience the freedom of Christ in his life
  • For continued health for the men at La Cosecha, Oti and his family, and for the children of Meno who are staying with them
  • For God’s blessing on their endeavors to continue building and expanding La Cosecha through a new bathroom, updated farm buildings, and new laying hens.
  • That God would open the eyes of this man and his family who left, and cause him to forsake this false doctrine and return to the path of truth.
  • That the truth of Jesus Christ would prevail in Oaxaca, and that God would protect His people from false doctrine.

“Each day we continue with enthusiasm our activities in the workshops, in the teaching and with the church congregation.  We give thanks to the Lord for calling us to His work. We long to complete His plans and to see the young men and adults who live with us to know the liberty with which Christ makes us truly free.”
