Funds Needed for Children’s Program in Sri Lanka

‘Tis the season for Hallmark movies, gifts, and painfully adorable children’s Christmas programs. Who doesn’t love tiny tots dressed up like sheep and angels, recreating the most important night in history? It’s a time to teach the next generation about the meaning of Christmas while we get the chance to experience the joy of the season through fresh eyes.

The Sunday School Christmas program is an experience that’s shared by churches around the world.

Pastor Sathees Kumar from Sri Lanka writes, “Normally we have a special Christmas program for Sunday school children, but last year we couldn’t do any program and also didn’t give any gifts for the children.” Because of government restrictions imposed due to Covid concerns, Kumar’s church hasn’t even been able to do Sunday school properly for nearly two years, although they are currently doing an online program once a week.

“For Christmas we are hoping that we will be able to do a program,” Kumar says.

Sathees Kumar is the church planting director who sits on the Assembly of God council over all of Sri Lanka. Their Sunday school is held in three different languages: Sinhala, Tamil, and English, and their outreach Sunday schools are held in several different places. This year they are planning to not only hold a Christmas program for the children, but give them books and a stationary pack as well. Considering everyone has been experiencing economic difficulties, Kumar says this gift will be helpful for their parents too, as the children will be able to use the materials for school. The cost is around $10 per child, and Kumar estimates there to be about 120 children attending their church and about 300 children attending the outreach Sunday School ministry.

In addition to funding their Sunday School program, Kumar also asked for financial support to help their full-time pastor attend Bible college over the next two years. The monthly cost for school is 7000 rupees, which is around 40 USD.

“Your support for this is very much appreciated,” Kumar writes. “He [Pastor Prem] is a good musician and he [leads] worship in our church.”

We would love to be able to fully support each of these needs in Sri Lanka. If you’d like to partner with us in this goal, please prayerfully consider donating any amount here on our website or mailing a check to: TRC Ministries, PO Box 1196, Alexandria, MN 56308. Please make sure to include “Sri Lanka” in the memo.

TRC Ministries is partnering with multiple pastors in Sri Lanka in order to bring the bible to these people in their own language through our audio bible ministry. We also see God raising up Christians who are dedicated to bringing the gospel message to their own people. We are working to train them to bring the gospel message and plant churches in their own country.
