Positive Testimonies from La Cosecha

Cultivating Crops and a Culture of Cooperation

As you may know, La Cosecha is a rehabilitation center located on farmland in Oaxaca, Mexico. In addition to housing farm animals including chickens, goats, and pigs, the residents cultivate the land as well. Most recently, they planted corn.

But according to Oti, La Cosecha’s founder, the benefits of farming the land go far beyond harvesting a crop. “It is important to learn and develop working the land. In La Cosecha we realize how action complements Biblical teaching and the activities of rehabilitation.” In fact, Jesus used farming in a large portion of his parables in order to give people an accessible, familiar visual to be able to absorb new ideas. In the same way, the residents at La Cosecha have an opportunity to ponder the words of Jesus as they work with their hands and with each other.

New Land Donated for La Cosecha

A few months ago, a man named Martin donated a portion of land in a different part of Oaxaca to be used by La Cosecha. Oti drove out to meet with Martin, survey the land, and talk about what it would take to make it usable, as it’s a semi-jungle area. The thick brush and undergrowth would have to be cleared out first before any plans for building could be made.

We are excited for what God has planned for this new area, dubbed “La Cosecha Costa.”

Resident’s Positive Rehabilitation

One of La Cosecha’s residents, Martin, is showing huge improvement. He’d already been a resident at La Cosecha, but after he left, he had a relapse. In spite of his mistake, he decided to return to La Cosecha of his own free will in order to receive the support he needs to get back on track.

Thanks to God, Martin has been working hard and investing much effort into his recuperation. He’s a very enthusiastic young man and a hard worker, and right now he is a supervisor in the residence, which is a great help. In addition to everything else, Martin has renewed his interest in music and has been helping lead worship with his guitar.

We praise God for bringing Martin back to a helpful, healing community at La Cosecha, and pray that he would receive God’s abundant grace whole-heartedly.
